WORKSHOP ON SENSITIZING AND STIMULATING

THE ROLES OF EMPLOYERS IN COMBATING CHILD LABOR AND CONSULTATION ON THE DRAFT

OF CAMFEBA’S STRATEGIC ACTION PLAN AGAINST CHILD LABOR IN CAMBODIA (2012 – 2013)

On 30-31 August 2011 at InterContinental Hotel, Cambodian Federation of Employers and Business Associations (CAMFEBA) organized a two-day workshop on “the Roles of Employers in Combating Child Labour and Consultatation on the draft of  CAMFEBA’s Strategic Action Plan against Child Labour in Cambodia (2011-2013)”. It was presided over by H.E. Madame Prak Chanta, Secretary of State of Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training and the Chairperson of the National Sub-Committee on Child Labour (NSC-CL). This workshop  was also participated by 30 representatives of  Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training (MoLVT), Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth Rehabilitation (MoSAVY), Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sport (MoEYS), Cambodian Chamber of Commerce (CCC), ILO, Trade Unions and Employers (CAMFEBA and GMAC members).

 The first day of workshop was the capacity building session for employers, relevant stakeholders, especially the CAMFEBA’s employer focal points who were selected from the target cities/provinces where the project has been operating. During the training, all the important information on child labour issue had been disseminated such as the safe migration for decent work for youth of working age, child safe tourism and Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children (CSEC), Cambodia’s NPA, Cambodia’s Twin Goals etc. Also, the Labour Law, Policies, Prakas, international instruments such as ILO Convention 138, 182 were explained and emphasized how all the relevant bodies can implement to contribute achieving the national child labour target to 8 per cent by 2015 and ending the WFCL across the Country by 2016 was also discussed.

During the second day, all the participants provided comments/inputs to finalize the final draft of CAMFEBA’s Strategic Plan of Action against Child Labor for the formal implementation between 2012 -2013.

This workshop was dismised with a very fruitful outcome as it could draw a lot of attention and participation from the various sectors such as Employers, Trade Unions, relevant ministries and stakeholders in the elimination of the worst forms of child labor. More importantly, there were so many good feedbacks given during the group discussion, as well as a lot of comments were raised to finalize the draft of CAMFEBA’s Strategic Plan of Action against Child Labor (2012 -2013).
